Do I Have To Download Every Game On Xbox One

Don't know if you talk about backward compatible 360 games on X1, or?

Instead of letting you install original game on X1, and small download patch to run with emulator on X1 - they decided to make full download as digital game buy.

In general game size on 360 was peradventure four-8G, and on X1 xx-40G - so there goes the hours.

Don't know if that is because 360 merely upscaled every game to 1080p and X1 run true native 1080p as such.

And overall MS shifted to just transport game codes, if talking near games arranged with panel.

I bought 360 with at to the lowest degree 1 game on disc, and one for download.

My X1 shipped with a game code only, and size of game is bigger than monthly download bandwidth I accept, so no become.

The pop theory, which I happen to disagree with, is that BR optical drives cannot read the game disc quick enough.

My theory is the industries DRM and wanting to not have physical media or optical drives at all. I hateful, think about it. Even b4 electric current gen launched, this was discussed here on the forums. People replied not wanting all digital only to have physical as well.

Upwards until rather receienly, you lot couldn't even rip physical music cd's, and still can't to the x1's hdd. They did finally allow it to thumbdrives but yous ripped the music to the thumbdrive via your PC.

Then you consider 'day one' patches for near all newely released games and you, well i do anyway, start seeing a pattern, a DRM design.

Industries succeded in taking downward Blockbuster for case, and every year since we've seen more and more pressure level placed on their competition... Now for ten bucks a calendar month you can go all digital, dl and play even newely released games and help drive more nails into the competitions coffen.

And then once the comp is no more... Monopoly. And so they Upward the price/restrictions whenever and withal they wish, even eliminating physical media alltogether.

So my respond to your question. DRM.

So in one case the comp is no more... Monopoly. And so they Up the cost/restrictions whenever and however they wish, fifty-fifty eliminating physical media alltogether.

And then my answer to your question. DRM.

How truthful.

And then publishers tin decide to sell right on their own servers - to the whole world - and there is no retailers or competition at all - publishers set price and that is what you take to pay.

Boxed games through retailers allow for much faster driblet in price later on launch - than online stores do.

For these reasons I always buy boxed games with discs - and don't need massive downloads either.

The pop theory, which I happen to disagree with, is that BR optical drives cannot read the game disc quick plenty.

Yous're partly right just non in the way you think.

Blu-ray drives accept a higher data transfer charge per unit than DVD but the speed of the drive is constant, compared to DVD which is variable.

And so with a game on the DVD you tin speed upwardly the drive when it is needed, as the lens can move more quickly to the part of the disc the needed data is on. So a DVD can layout the data 1,two,iii,4.

However since blu-ray always runs at one speed the bulldoze can't speed upward so data needs to be replicated on the disc more once. Giving us a layout of say 1,2,iii,4,2,one,3,ane,iv. Essentially rendering the extra storage of the disc nearly pointless.

Also difficult drives are faster than optical media, so you install the game from blu-ray in social club to maximise the space bachelor on the disc and get a faster loading game.

In regard to publishers setting prices for digital, I wouldn't worry too much.  I picked up Mass Effect Andromeda for $13 less than the retail cost from a fundamental selling site. There volition e'er exist means to get cheaper games.

You lot're not "downloading" the games, you're copying them from the disc to the hard drive. If you tried to play games from the disc this gen, the sheer size of the information would brand for a miserable experience full of 10 infinitesimal loading screens. That'south why you take to install the disc earlier playing.

While the 360 did not *require* you to install games, they did add that feature later in the life wheel and then that people could savor faster loading times if they installed the game.

Don't bother trying to explicate to them, Electroflying loves his conspiracy theory that "the industry" is out to force us all to become digital only (fifty-fifty though the PC has been digital only for the final fifteen years or and then and they aren't having problems)

To the OP asking why, the simple answer is BECAUSE Nosotros Do.

If you don't like that we accept to install/download games, then may I suggest you either buy a Nintendo Switch (no installs there) or you maybe take up a dissimilar hobby, mayhap knitting?

I was just answering the OP and ignoring others who would rather spout off stupid conspiracy theories based on nix more than fantasy and a complete lack of technical knowledge. ;-)

Also, I'm pretty certain the PS4 handles game installation ameliorate too. I don't remember what it was like with the X1, simply it takes the PS4 less than five minutes before it copies the necessary data so you lot can kickoff while information technology installs the rest of the game in the background.

You lot're non "downloading" the games, you're copying them from the disc to the hard drive. If you tried to play games from the disc this gen, the sheer size of the data would make for a miserable experience full of 10 minute loading screens. While the 360 did not *require* yous to install games, they did add together that characteristic afterwards in the life cycle and then that people could enjoy faster loading times if they installed the game.

You probably nailed what OP was later on - skilful grab.

I call up too being dislocated over install being represented past Mbps and progress, and being sum of what is on disc and patches that you were asked to download as well.

And patches, being much smaller, ended first and continued with reading from disc. AT some point game was ready to play, and install continued in background.

Don't remember all details, but something like that.

Not entirely clear starting time time you see it.
